Foundations exceed the exacting tolerances required
The first stage of the Cygnus homes demonstration building has been completed at our Duxford premises with the installation of the ring beam and underground services.
Utilising a system developed with our supplier Shanco and applying one of the Cygnus homes Patent Pending devices, the installation was completed on site in two days. The measured accuracy is remarkable at 0/-4mm in the x/y/z axis, enabling the superstructure to be readily located with no adjustments being required. The beams themselves were lifted into position in one hour.
Cygnus CEO Roger Walker said “the premise of the installation strategy for the Cygnus home is the accurate setting up of the foundation in a way which is predictable and repeatable in any ground conditions. Working closely with the Shanco team, we have exceeded our specification target which is great and bodes very well for our development programme. We have already debriefed the installation with Shanco, part of our open loop approach with our team, and so we are ready to go with the roll-out programme.”
Declan Armour CEO of Shanco added “we usually work on sites on a one-off basis. Having the opportunity to plan with Cygnus in the long-term has enabled us to develop with confidence a solution which we know is robust and can readily be rolled out. We knew we could achieve the tolerances required but it is always good when the results bear out our expectations”.
The next stage is the fabric installation incorporating our E-Riser module which will be on site very soon.
